Description :

We are seeking to recruit a commercially minded Engineering professional in the role of Head of Engineering to help support and drive forward the company’s growth ambitions within the sector. 



As a member of the executive team reporting to the Chief Executive, the Head of Engineering will formulate and implement an engineering plan to ensure that the company’s assets are available to support the business plan, are safe to operate and are compliant with regulations at all times



Lead and develop the Engineering and Maintenance team to support the business strategy

Management and control of £250m of ship and shore assets, some of which are operational on a 24/7 basis

Management of a £5m annual capital expenditure budget

Ensure the availability of ship and shore assets to agreed KPI targets

Provide a responsive and respected repair and maintenance function that supports the operational needs of the business

Create, implement and sustain best practice in engineering strategy, policies, processes and procedures to aid, improve and enhance safety and business performance

Work collaboratively with external suppliers through efficient contract performance management

Apply the disciplines of asset management and reliability engineering to optimize lifetime operating costs of ship and shore assets

Drive key performance indicators across all areas of the engineering function to ensure that all projects are delivered on cost, on time and to the required quality standards

Report on Engineering activities on a regular basis to the senior leadership team ensuring accurate and timely reporting of relevant KPI’s

An awareness of emerging technical risks and opportunities and take account of these when developing the engineering plan and contributing to the overall business strategy

Ensure that environmental, health and safety, engineering and quality standards and procedures are adhered to

Prepare the annual engineering budget and forecasts for all capital expenditure proposals

Ensure that all assets and processes comply with regulatory and legal requirements

Contribute to the overall business strategy and annual budgeting processes

Maintain an awareness of environmental initiatives that impact on future ways of engineering, operating and ensure that appropriate plans are implemented

Lead the survey, inspection and audit programme of all physical assets

Be the data owner for the company’s ‘Maximo’ asset database



Educated to degree level in a relevant mechanical engineering discipline 

Member, or working towards, chartered status of a recognised professional engineering body  

Post graduate business qualification (preferred)



Good interpersonal skills and the ability to evaluate, explain and simplify complex technical issues

Ability to appreciate the wider business whilst challenging and ‘drilling down’ when appropriate

Strong leadership skills, inspiring and encouraging teamwork

A commercially astute and adept negotiator

Fully competent with IT including Microsoft Office applications (Word / Excel / Power point / Outlook)

Clean full UK driving licence



Demonstrable track record of successfully leading an engineering function supporting a safety critical and customer orientated operation

Maritime engineering experience and knowledge (preferred)

Experience of operating, contributing and influencing at a strategic level



Strong and concise communication skills, both written and verbal

Transparent, honest and open with colleagues

Strong grammatical and numerical skills
