SHIPPING AGENCY CONTROLLER (3 ROLES)

Our client is a privately-owned logistics service provider specialising in naval-military port services and supplies.
Since their formation, they have handled over 5000 military port calls in more than 300 ports worldwide. Building upon their reputation for excellence, they have expanded and adapted their services to provide management for military inland operations and exercises, humanitarian missions, logistics and remote life support and other related OOTW missions.

Our client has recently secured a new long term contract with the MOD which will be managed by a new hub-agency team at their offices in the South East (Kent or Essex). They are now seeking to recruit three experienced Hub-Agency Controllers with experience in ships agency or maritime operations to assist the Hub-Agency Manager in the delivery of this contract.
Reporting to the Hub-Agency Manager, the post holder will be responsible for supporting the successful delivery of a prestigious military contract, undertaking liaison with internal and internal stakeholders on a daily basis to ensure delivery of a robust, reliable and high quality service to the Customer.
KEY AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY
Ensuring that all vessel requirements are organised and available at the respective port(s) of call, facilitating a safe and efficient turnaround
Liaise with vessel masters and overseas Port Agents on a daily basis to ensure that all parties are kept fully informed or vessel prospects and corresponding arrangements
Meeting or exceeding appropriate Key Performance Indicators and undertaking checks and audit controls
Support and develop effective working relationships with Port Agents, Ships Crew and other internal and external customers and suppliers
Occasional overseas travel may be required in order to provide support to local port agents
Attending regular contract review meetings with the client and other stakeholders, reviewing operational procedures and corrective actions as required
Upholding and promoting the Company’s health, safety and compliance procedures
Ideally a professional qualification in shipping or logistics, applicants must have a good standard of education including minimum grade C in Mathematics and English Language at GCSE or equivalent
Must hold a UK passport or have been resident in the UK for at least 5 years. The post holder will be required to undergo a DBS check prior to commencement of employment
A full UK driving licence
Strong and concise communication skills, both written and verbal
Good grammatical and numerical skills
Strong and effective communications skills (essential)
Fully competent with IT including Microsoft Office applications (Word / Excel / Power point / Outlook)
Demonstrable experience of working within a shipping agency or similar marine operational environment
Ideally an understanding of ship agency practice and procedures, preferably with boarding and operational experience of military logistics
Organised and accurate with good attention to detail
A pro-active problem solver
Effective personal time management skills and the ability to prioritise tasks
Comfortable with working independently and within team environment team
A flexible approach to working hours and environment
