Justin Atkin - Consultant

An experienced Senior Manager working in the Ports, Shipping and Logistics.

With over 20-years experience in the Ports industry, Justin has held a number of senior positions across operational, commercial and general management functions.

During his most recent role Justin was responsible for managing numerous regional, national and international key accounts active in a number of different industries. He developed strong, sustainable relationships with customers, gaining an informed insight into their business, developing solutions tailored to their requirements.

Justin spent more than 6 years as Terminal Manager of Associated British Ports Humber International Terminal where he was responsible for implementing and executing bulk handling solutions for customers in the Energy, Agricultural, Industrial, Steel and Construction sectors.

In his role as Head of Bulk Operations, Justin was also responsible for the development and delivery of the Company’s agribulks and fertilizer terminals. He also worked on the feasibility and delivery of a number of major projects including Humber International Terminal Phase 2 (£59m); Immingham Renewable Fuels Terminal (£130m); and a number of bespoke bulk handling, processing and storage projects.

At Group level Justin has chaired specialist sector teams in Agribulks and in Construction, as well as sitting on a panel researching logistics in the Energy sector including coal, biomass and LNG

Justin is a Board member of the Coal Industry Society; sits on the Members Advisory Panel of the Association of Bulk Terminal Operators (ABTO) and is a Board member of Franklin College’s Logistics Career Academy.

John Fitzgerald - Consultant

Experienced Port Director working in UK Ports, Logistics and Infrastructure sector, John was a senior Board member of Associated British Ports, the UK’s largest private ports group for over 12 years during which the company underwent two changes of ownership achieving sales multiples of 16x and 24x EBITDA.

During his 18-year career with ABP John has responsibility for running the UK's largest and most successful ports complex ABP’s Humber Ports with revenues of £325M and delivering an EBITDA of £185M (2015). Capex investment in the business during his tenure was over £500M. It employed over 900 people directly.

John has had significant experience of long term strategic growth planning; numerous business development infrastructure projects; large scale capital development project management on existing and new port infrastructure vital to support UK’s economy; supporting M&A projects and delivering business transformation. All this contributed to delivering enhanced shareholder value for business owners, and growing Gross Value Added (GVA) in the local and regional economies he worked in.

John has been responsible for some of the largest port infrastructure projects developed in UK over the past 15 years and continues to advise port owners and operators, port customers and other public and private sector stakeholders on strategic business development for existing and delivery of new operations.

His areas of specialism also include strategic growth acquisitions; transaction advisory services including company valuations, due diligence and capital project appraisal; Port Master-planning and infrastructure development.

Harry Miller - Consultant

An experienced Chairman, Managing Director and Consultant working in mechanical handling and earthmoving equipment sectors.

Harry is Chairman of the Scan-Mech Group incorporating Westfield Plant and Management Services Limited and has provided plant handling solutions to the ports sector for more than 16 years.

Westfield Plant and Management Services Limited have been service provider of choice to Associated British Ports at the Humber International Terminal facility since 2000, providing a fleet of loading shovels, 360 excavators and bulldozers and undertaking a full industrial cleaning services contract on the Immingham Renewable Fuels Terminal, the UK's largest dedicated biomass handling and storage facility. Over the last 16 years the Company has handled more than 140 million tonnes of dry bulk cargoes including coal, petroleum coke, biomass, grain, animal feed, minerals, ores and scrap metal.

A Masters graduate in Business Administration and Management, Harry has worked in both consultancy and Business Professor roles offering strategic advice to SME’s and educational establishments including the University of Hull.

Jason Atkin - Consultant

An experienced Managing Director and Consultant with over 30 years experience of working in shipping and logistics. 

Jason has extensive knowledge of logistics purchasing, port handling equipment, production and operations, establishment and expansion of terminals and the construction of new ports, berths and warehousing capacity including logistical flows. 

Jason has worked on projects across different supply chain specialisms for SME's and global corporations in the UK, Scandinavia and Asia including assignments in Indonesia and Singapore. 

His projects include developing a lean delivery system for steel products into Europe; reviewing and redesigning the laydown philosophy for a large steel fabrication site in China; delivery of major CAPEX projects for a large pulp producer including new port construction, paper mill loading station and on-site container park; the management of large project cargo operations including skidding, heavy lifts, Antanov loadings and route surveying.
