Ragged Edge has chosen to make its annual Christmas charitable donation to the RNLI – the charity that saves lives at sea.
British and Irish waters are dangerously unpredictable, with around 190 people dying in accidents on or near the sea every year. Some of these deaths are from within the merchant fleet which is such an integral part to the supply chain and logistics sector.
In 2017, RNLI lifeboat crews launched 8,436 times around the coasts of UK and Ireland, saving an average of 22 people each day.
In the summer of 2017, RNLI lifeguards responded to 15,558 incidents and aided 24,044 beach goers.
Last year the RNLI ‘Swim Safe’ campaign gave 13,158 children free practical training to increase their confidence in open water.
Speaking about the donation Ragged Edge’s Justin Atkin said, “To continue its excellent work the RNLI relies almost entirely on donations. 2018 has been a hugely successful year for Ragged Edge thanks to the support of our valued customers, and we are therefore delighted to be able to share this success by supporting the RNLI and the fantastic work that they carry out”.
